How to Re-configure Your StitchPort After a Connection Failure

Your StitchPort device is designed to be simple, acting as its own Wi-Fi access point or connecting directly to your local network.

This guide will help you re-configure your StitchPort if its normal operation has failed.

Troubleshooting: Identifying a Failed Connection

  • Normal Operation: When StitchPort is running properly, its status light should be blinking.
  • Failed Connection: If the status light is always on (solid), it means the StitchPort has failed to connect.

This failure can happen for a few common reasons:

  • The Wi-Fi network name (SSID) or password was typed incorrectly during setup.
  • You tried to connect to a 5GHz Wi-Fi network. StitchPort only supports 2.4GHz networks.

To fix this, you must re-configure the device using one of the two methods below.

Method 1: Re-configure via USB in the eXPerience Software

This is the most direct way to re-configure your device.

  1. Connect StitchPort: Plug your StitchPort device directly into a USB port on your computer.
  2. Open Software: Start the eXPerience software.
  3. Navigate to Options: Go to the Tools menu and select Options.
  4. Go to StitchPort Tab: In the “Options” window that appears, click on the StitchPort tab.
  5. Open USB Configuration: In the “Local” section, the [Configure USB] button should now be enabled. Click it.
  6. Enter New Settings: A configuration window will open. Here you can:
    • Set a new Name for your StitchPort.
    • Adjust the name or password for the embedded access point (if you use that mode).
    • To connect to your home/office Wi-Fi, select the “Connect to your local network” option.
    • Carefully type the Network name (SSID) and Password for your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
  7. Save Settings: Click the [Write] button to send the new configuration to the StitchPort.
  8. Reboot the Device: This is a critical step. You must unplug the StitchPort from your computer and then plug it back in. The device will restart and apply the new settings.
  9. Verify Success: If the configuration is successful, the status light will begin blinking.
  10. Done: Your StitchPort is ready. You can now unplug it from the computer and take it back to your embroidery machine.

Method 2: Re-configure using a Configuration File (.json)

This alternative method is useful for configuring multiple devices or preparing a configuration in advance.

  1. Open Software: Start the eXPerience software (your StitchPort does not need to be connected for this step).
  2. Navigate to Options: Go to the Tools menu and select Options.
  3. Go to StitchPort Tab: In the “Options” window, click the StitchPort tab.
  4. Configure to File: Click the [Configure to File…] button.
  5. Enter Settings: A configuration window will open. Set the desired Name and enter the Network name (SSID) and Password for your local 2.4GHz network.
  6. Save the File: Click [Save]. You will be prompted to save a configuration file.
    • Important: Save this file somewhere you can easily find it, like your Desktop. DO NOT change the filename.
  7. Connect StitchPort: Plug your StitchPort into your computer’s USB port. It should appear as an external drive.
  8. Copy the File: Find the .json configuration file you just saved and copy-paste it into the main (root) directory of the StitchPort drive.
  9. Reboot the Device: This is a critical step. Unplug the StitchPort from your computer and plug it back in. The device will read the configuration file as it starts up.
  10. Verify Success: The status light should begin blinking, indicating a successful connection.
  11. Done: Your StitchPort is ready to be moved back to your embroidery machine.
