How to Update Your StitchPort Firmware

Your StitchPort device relies on internal software, called firmware (similar to an operating system), to function correctly. Firmware updates are released to fix bugs, improve performance, enhance security, and sometimes introduce new features.

This guide provides the complete step-by-step instructions for updating your StitchPort device firmware.

Before You Begin

You will need the following:

  1. Your StitchPort device.
  2. A computer (PC or Mac).
  3. A USB data cable.
  4. The official firmware update file (it will have a .uf2 file extension).

Useful Tip: Before starting, download the provided .uf2 file and save it to an easy-to-find location, such as your Desktop or Downloads folder.

Step 1: Check Your Current Firmware Version (Optional)

If you want to confirm your device’s current version before updating, follow these steps:

  1. Open your StitchPort software and go to the Configuration area.
  2. In the list of available devices, you can see the currently installed firmware version for your StitchPort.
  3. Make a note of this version to verify the update is successful later.

Step 2: Start the Firmware Update Process

  1. Disconnect from Machine: Safely unplug your StitchPort device from the embroidery machine.
  2. Prepare for Connection: Bring the StitchPort device close to your computer, but do not plug it in yet.
  3. Enter Update Mode: Press and hold down the button on the StitchPort device.
  4. Connect to Computer: While still holding the button, plug the USB cable into the StitchPort and connect the other end to a USB port on your computer.
  5. Locate the Drive: Once connected correctly, your computer will recognize the device as a new external drive named “RPI-RP2”.
    • Useful Tip: If the “RPI-RP2” drive does not appear, unplug the device and try again. Ensure you are pressing and holding the button before and during the connection. Also, verify you are using a USB data cable, as some “charging-only” cables will not work.

Step 3: Copy the Firmware File

  1. Open a file explorer window and navigate to the “RPI-RP2” drive that just appeared.
  2. Find the .uf2 firmware file you downloaded earlier.
  3. Click and drag the .uf2 file from its folder and drop it directly onto the “RPI-RP2” drive.

Step 4: Finalize and Verify the Update

  1. Wait for the Update: The file will begin copying. Once the transfer is complete, the “RPI-RP2” drive will automatically disconnect (disappear).
  2. Confirm Update: Shortly after, the device may reconnect as a new drive named “STITCHPORT”. This signals that the update is complete and was successful.
  3. Verify in Software (Recommended): You can verify the new firmware version by opening the StitchPort software, returning to the Configuration area, and checking the version number listed for your device. It should now show the new version.
  4. Complete: Your StitchPort is now updated. You can safely unplug it from the computer and reconnect it to your embroidery machine.
