March 30, 2006 - Corel® DRAWings® X3 Debuts at International Sign Expo Orlando Next Month

Corel® DRAWings® X3 Debuts at International Sign Expo Orlando Next Month

New Software Makes it Easy to Experience the Creative Freedom of Vector-based Embroidery

March 30, 2006 – Ottawa, ON
Corel Corporation and DRAWstitch Ltd. today announced that Corel® DRAWings® X3 will be unveiled at the International Sign Association (ISA) Expo in Orlando next month. From April 6th to April 8th, 2006, show attendees are invited to stop by booth #3654 to get a first look at the latest version of Corel DRAWings, a unique vector-based embroidery solution that combines the award-winning power and simplicity of CorelDRAW® Graphics Suite X3 with the industry-renowned embroidery expertise of DRAWstitch. Corel DRAWings X3 gives embroiderers an unprecedented level of ease-of-use, while offering the digitizing control and flexibility professional users need over their custom designs and final stitched results.

This complete, all-in-one, design-to-stitch solution offers true vector design and digitizing, making linear workflow a thing of the past. Now users can work dynamically, back and forth between vector art and embroidery, increasing the accuracy of their projects. This affordable software makes it easy to create, edit, and change designs without having to redo previous steps, and see the stitching output immediately.

"Building on the strengths of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 – the platform of choice for professionals throughout the specialty graphics industry – and the expertise of DRAWstitch, one of the world's foremost embroidery technologies, Corel DRAWings X3 packs a powerful punch that can't be matched by any other embroidery tool," said Nick Davies, Corel's General Manager Graphics. "Any design professional or hobbyist will find that Corel DRAWings X3 can make embroidery an easy, fulfilling, and lucrative addition to their work."

Corel DRAWings X3 includes a special edition of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 to make creating custom designs for embroidery projects easier than ever before. Complete with CorelDRAW X3 for graphics creation and Corel® PHOTO-PAINT® X3 for image editing, new design capabilities in Corel DRAWings X3 include:

  • New Corel® PowerTRACE –Integrated into CorelDRAW X3, Corel® PowerTRACE makes it quick and easy to convert bitmaps into editable vector graphics, enabling low-quality bitmaps to be transformed into high-quality embroidery designs. In addition, the resulting vector artwork can be easily edited and customized for embroidery projects.

  • Enhanced Interactive Fit Text to Path –A common design element found in logos and graphics used in embroidery, placing text along a path has never been easier. Whether users are creating designs that wrap text around a circle or along a wavy line, the interactive Fit Text to Path tool lets users simply select text, move their pointer along a path, and then click to set the text's position.

  • New Image Adjustment Lab –For users who wish to include bitmap images and photos to be cross-stitched in their embroidery projects, the Image Adjustment Lab makes it simple to work with images that have poor color balance and contrast by offering manual and automatic controls for common color and tone corrections. Users can create snapshots of their adjustments to easily compare each snapshot against the original and choose the best result.

  • New Hints docker –The new Hints docker provides context-sensitive information on the currently selected tool to make getting started a snap. Available whenever the user needs it, the Hints docker makes it easier than ever to learn to use the tools in the toolbox and also gives longtime CorelDRAW Graphics Suite users helpful tips that they might not have previously discovered.

  • Valuable content and training materials –More than 10,000 hand-selected professional clipart and images; 1,000 OpenType fonts, plus 35 Windows® Glyph List 4 (WGL4); printed User Guide; training videos by lynda.com; Digital Content Guide; and a Quick Reference Card.

These new enhancements to CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 complement the powerful digitizing capabilities of DRAWstitch which enable users to convert any vector design into embroidery with premium stitch quality – all the while giving users ultimate control over the final output. Corel DRAWings automatically calculates embroidery parameters, such as underlay, compensation, branching, thread trimming and stabilizer requirements, and also provides real-time updates between the artwork design and stitch results. New embroidery enhancements in Corel DRAWings X3 are designed to save users time and make them more productive. These include:

  • Automatic sequence strategy –Users can now choose between any one of the following embroidery strategies – top to bottom, bottom to top, left to right, right to left, small to large, large to small, inside to outside, and outside to inside.

  • Keep sequence of overlapped objects –By default, Corel DRAWings X3 simplifies the embroidery process by automatically stitching overlapped objects in the order they appear in the artwork.

  • Re-sequencing of objects –Wings' Modular now gives users ultimate control with the ability to change the embroidery sequence.

  • Eliminates thread trims inside combined objects –The software now gives users the option to remove all thread trims between combined objects including text.

  • Export to Image –Users can now easily create a bitmap representation of the final stitch results which can be printed out for proofing, on garments, postcards, and used in various designs.

  • Increased compatibility –Supported file formats now include PFAFF PCS and Barudan FDR for Compact Flash Memory Cards.

In addition, customers who require more options and control over the embroidery process may choose Corel DRAWings X3 Professional that also offers:

  • Offset control –Users can control the offset of running as well as Satin Serial to outlines/lineart objects and borders.

  • Offset control for Appliqué –When working with Appliqué, users can control the offset of the tack-down stitches.

  • Direction control –Users can now change the direction of the stitches when working with Satin, Step, and Piping stitch types.

  • Divide or split control –By dividing Satin and Piping objects, users can create sections in an object to customize the way it will be embroidered.

  • Professional adjustment controls –Users can manually adjust characteristics including density, compensation, length, underlay, and offset.

"Corel DRAWings X3 is having a dramatic effect on the productivity of our business – in some cases, we've found that we're completing projects 25 percent faster than before!" said Peter Steffny, owner of MPST Digital Design. "With the new Create Boundary, enhanced Contour, and the incredible PowerTRACE, not to mention the overall performance and rendering boosts, we think Corel DRAWings X3 is the essential design and digitizing tool for anyone in the embroidery industry."

"Within a few hours of using Corel DRAWings X3, it was clear that this new version would have a big impact on the way we work! With features like the new automatic sequencing options and the ability to eliminate thread trims between combined objects including text, Corel DRAWings X3 makes many of our day-to-day embroidery tasks much easier without sacrificing the control professionals like us need," says Diane Huyler, owner of Color Your World, a promotional graphics company that specializes in embroidery. "When you're under the pressure of constant deadlines, software that makes you more productive is a must. The latest version of Corel DRAWings delivers the tools we need to get the job done right -- on time and on budget."

Corel Corporation and DRAWstitch Ltd. today announced the availability of the companies' new embroidery software, Corel® DRAWings® 2. Offered in both a standard and professional edition, Corel DRAWings 2 is a powerful application that lets customers use CorelDRAW vector files for embroidery, making it faster, easier, and less expensive than ever before to produce professional-quality embroidery designs.

Corel DRAWings 2, the DRAW-to-stitch design software for the embroidery industry, combines a special edition of the award-winning CorelDRAW® Graphics Suite with the digitizing expertise of DRAWstitch, enabling customers to complete their projects more quickly and cost-effectively than by using traditional digitizing solutions. With a standard and professional edition to choose from, customers can select the software package that best suits their needs and budget.

"Built upon the power of CorelDRAW, Corel DRAWings 2 makes it easy for customers to create professional embroidery designs directly from a vector file. This is an important step in the evolution of embroidery technology," said Nick Davies, Corel's General Manager Graphics.

"Since Corel DRAWings 2 doesn't require digitizing, it is very different from traditional digitizing and auto-digitizing offerings. We're driving a growing trend as more and more embroidery professionals realize the incredible benefits vector art lends to their workflow. With the ability to import more than 100 file formats, DRAWings 2 enables designs to be created more easily and faster than ever before, helping customers balance their creativity and production with business-critical deadlines and budgets," added Davies.

"Inspired by the market's enthusiastic acceptance of the DRAWstitch concept, we concentrated our efforts in making Corel DRAWings 2 an even more powerful software application. Now any user - even those with no digitizing expertise - can create outstanding embroidery," said John Doukakis, President of DRAWstitch Ltd. "Professionals, as well as home-based businesses and hobbyists, will find Corel DRAWings 2 exceeds even their most demanding expectations by delivering a fine balance between instantaneous conversion and user control over the final result."

Corel DRAWings 2 (standard edition) is designed to provide independent embroidery professionals and home users with more creative features at an attractive price. It includes the following new features to ensure customers receive the best possible embroidery results:

Filter shapes to remove overlapping areas - Using artificial intelligence, this tool removes all overlaps between the objects of the vector designs, avoiding layering of stitches on fabric and dramatically reducing the overall number of stitches applied. Users can also manually alter the overlapping status of each object.

Add sequence control to individual shapes - Users can now easily change the embroidering sequence of their designs (send to front/back). Specific objects in the design can be designated to be embroidered at the start or at the end of the embroidering process, giving the customer the ability to embroider a design in the order they choose.

Improved speed of data transfer from DRAW to stitch tab - The speed of data transfer between the DRAW and stitch tabs has been dramatically improved, enabling the user to produce more embroidery designs in less time.

Convert bitmap objects to cross-stitch - Any (RGB) bitmap imported in DRAWings 2 can be immediately converted to a perfect embroidery design in cross-stitch.

Appliqué - Users now enjoy new styles for holding appliqué and can easily hold a number of appliqués on the fabric with multiple Zig-Zag styles.

Improved underlays - Using enhanced intelligence, this tool now offers users underlay options that ensure even greater embroidery stability and quality.

Wings' modular® embroidery software, Basic Module - Based on entry-level viewing and editing software used in the embroidery industry, this module provides industry professionals with a tool for viewing, modifying and exchanging embroidery design files, with the addition of innovative design features and special functions.

In addition to the above-mentioned new features, Corel DRAWings 2 - Professional gives industrial users more options and control over the embroidery process and provides specific tools for large-scale projects, including: Add direction control in Satin/Step - With this tool, users enjoy more control over their designs by choosing the direction of Step and Satin stitches to get the specific results they desire.

Add Divide to Satin - Users can now Divide Satin objects and specify how the outlines are split into satin bars. Objects are not increased, but rather split to internal branches. Users can customize the way satin objects will be embroidered to create the exact design they want.

Add sequence control to design (optimization strategy) - Users can now define the sequence in which the objects of their designs will be embroidered. This tool is ideal for hats which need to be embroidered from the center to right and left and is also useful for delicate fabrics that need special care during the embroidery process. Sequence options include: top to bottom, bottom to top, left to right, right to left, small to large, large to small, inside to outside, and outside to inside.

Corel DRAWings 2 is based on the power of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12, the standard graphic design software used in related personalization industries including screen printing, laser cutting, sign making, and engraving industries. Whether they are importing clip art or making their own custom designs, customers can create a single graphic that can be used for embroidery, custom merchandise, sign fabrication, or printing. By choosing Corel technology, customers benefit from working with a standard that is universally accepted throughout the personalization industry.

Corel and DRAWstitch® Introduce DRAWings®
New Graphics & Embroidery Technology Revolutionizes the Apparel Industry

Ottawa, Canada –February 26, 2004
Corel and DRAWstitch today introduced DRAWings®, a revolutionary new graphics and embroidery technology that is ideal for users in the apparel industry including luggage and promotional items, as well as embroidery hobbyists. DRAWings combines a special edition of the award-winning CorelDRAW®graphics application with DRAWstitch's powerful embroidery technology, enabling customers to complete their projects more quickly and cost-effectively than by using traditional digitizing solutions.

DRAWings enables any vector graphic to be instantly converted into a perfect digitized embroidery pattern. As users create their design, the application takes into account the type of material being used, optimizes the stitch pattern, and automatically shows the result as it will appear in the embroidery. Once complete, the file can be saved in an embroidery industry file format (including Tajima DST) and easily shared with suppliers. This new product greatly simplifies the digitizing process –reducing the learning curve and lengthy time required to create stunning embroidery designs.

DRAWings gives customers a variety of benefits that aren't available from more expensive solutions. Through an intuitive and easy-to-use environment, customers can produce a single design or sample without the time and expense of traditional digitizing, making small orders more profitable. In addition, the software enables users to easily estimate the cost of an embroidery project based on the number of stitches in the design. These benefits help embroidery professionals gain a competitive edge by eliminating or greatly reducing digitizing charges.

"With this new product, Corel is reaching out to the embroidery market with a powerful tool that delivers a significantly better way to complete their projects. Traditional embroidery systems just can't match the flexibility, speed and simplicity offered by DRAWings," said Brett Denly, Executive Vice President of World Wide Marketing for Corel. "Together with DRAWstitch, we're delivering outstanding software to embroidery professionals and hobbyists that truly represents a significant leap forward for this market."

"DRAWstitch is excited to be working with a visionary company like Corel. CorelDRAW, one of the world's most popular software titles, offers our customers an ideal environment for creating embroidery patterns," said John Doukakis, President of DRAWstitch Ltd. "Whether the customer has been using CorelDRAW for years or is trying this powerful graphics tool for the first time, the software's user-friendly interface enables professionals and hobbyists alike to create high-quality embroidery designs faster than ever before."

"DRAWings is so technologically advanced, it is simply mind boggling. This software will revolutionize the embroidery industry. It is now possible for anyone, regardless of experience to produce high-quality digitized graphics," said Craig Mertens, President of Digital Art Solutions. "DRAWings is a completely new embroidery paradigm, it is not ‘Auto Punch' or traditional digitizing. This technology is one of the most important advances in embroidery technology in years and is priced to make traditional digitizing software very unattractive."

"Stitch Tree is thrilled to be offering this extraordinary product to our home embroidery hobbyist customers. We are thoroughly impressed with how unbelievably fast and simple it is to use this incredible software," said Donna Roseman, President of Stitch Tree Inc. "With DRAWings, embroidery enthusiasts no longer have to struggle through the tedious process of learning how to digitize their projects. Creating high quality embroidery designs is now easier than ever!"
